Concerto for Brass Quintet and Orchestra

  1. Introduction and Toccata
  2. Intermezzo notturno
  3. Variations

I wrote this work partly in Buenos Aires when I was studying under Alberto Ginastera and partly at Cornell University as my Doctoral composition. It was performed almost immediately by the New Orleans, Baltimore and Oklahoma Symphony Orchestras, among others and published by Boosey and Hawkes.

The concerto is a rhythmically vigorous work which is highly dissonant and systematically atonal with some chance elements in one movement.
