My Trombone Trio was written at the request of Tom Everett, who is a trombonist and directs the wind ensemble at Harvard University. He told me that the alto trombone was beginning to reappear in ensemble music, and so I wrote this work for alto, tenor, and bass trombones. The work is in three movements, opening with an allegro con spirito. The second movement is blues-like in a lazy 9/8 and the last movement is in a lively 3/8.
