Walter Ross~ Canzona II |

This work was written at the request of Per Brevig, the director of the Julliard Brass Ensemble. It had its premier with this group under Mr. Brevig's direction at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in January of 1980.
Canzona II is modeled on the early 17th century canzona, a work in several contrasting sections. This work is in six contrasting sections which are bound together by a subtle interplay of thematic materials. The overall design gives the performers opportunity to demonstrate virtuosic brass and percussion technique.
