Professor Tetsuya Iwasaki joined the
University of Virginia in the Summer of 2000 as an Assistant Professor in
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He was promoted to Associate Professor
in October 2002, and to Professor in August 2004. He received his B.S. and
M.S. degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Tokyo
Institute of Technology in 1987 and 1990, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree
in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University in 1993. After
completing his Ph.D. degree, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at
Purdue University (1994-1995), and Research Associate (1995-1996) and
Lecturer (1996-1997) at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, before joining the
faculty of the Tokyo Institute of Technology's Department of Control Systems
Engineering as an Associate Professor. Dr. Iwasaki's research interests include neuronal control
mechanism of animal locomotion, nonlinear oscillators, and robust/nonlinear
control theory and its applications to mechanical, aerospace, and electrical
systems. Dr. Iwasaki is a member of IEEE and ASME and has served as associate
editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Systems and Control
