Tonight

"Tonight" is a short drama dealing with happiness and remorse and the situations that can inextricably bind them. I started a first draft back in March, but heavily reworked it thanks to Paul Wagner's class. Jed and I took on Gretel as our casting director and acting liaison, and we instantly went from having no actors to too many. She surpassed all our expectations outside of casting as well, from helping us revise the script to giving us massages. She even did make-up and took photos of our shoot, which are available here (captioned by yours truly). So far, I think this is my most cinematically mature film to date and the one of which I'm most proud.

Or Slapped

This film is supposed to be an exercise in film noir dialogue. Shooting took place on October 13. Here is a link to some photos of the shoot. I finished editing on January 28 after a long period of inactivity.

People

Pooya and I have been working on this movie for a long time. It's a 20 minute documentary on homeless people in DC. It was shot over the summer and edited over 100 hours between the two of us in around two weeks' time last November. I will be happy to provide you with a DVD copy if you ask me.

The Shepherd

I made The Shepherd for the 2006 Adrenaline Film Project with Jed and Julia. The genre given to us was crama (crime drama), a term Jed and I invented. The prop was a jar of Miracle Whip and the line of dialogue was "I want to believe it." Unfortunately, we did not win, but we put in a fine show and a lot of people were impressed with how good ours looked.

The Unnamed Whore

On June 5, I wrote this in one sitting on a whim. Shooting took place on August 20. I edited it across 2 or 3 weeks and finished on September 13. I'm quite proud of it. It's different from all my other films in that it's serious and not a comedy.

Flip

We planned out and shot this movie in one hour yesterday and edited it across a couple hours today and yesterday as part of UVA FMS's Xtreme Filmmakers Challenge. It turned out exceptionally well and is definitely one of my best shorts. I had a lot of fun making it so I hope you have a lot of fun watching it.

Rated R

I wrote this in about 20-60 minutes to check out the online collaborative scriptwriting website Plotbot last Monday. I shot it on Wednesday and edited it on Sunday. So it's taken exactly one week to make this from start to finish. It's funny and, yes, the title correctly describes the piece.

25 Percent

I made this movie from the footage I took from Joe's "birthday adventure," where a group of us went to DC with props and tried to get strangers to pose in pictures with us. It was actually quite fun and I got a pretty neat movie out of it.

The Lost Auditions

We had set up auditions for our upcoming movie Lost, but it remained empty for the most part. Oh well. When life throws you a lemon, make lemonade. So, I made a nice little movie out of the footage we took, and it now functions as a teaser trailer for Lost. Enjoy!

Raw & Nareless

Sam and I had to go to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History for a class. So I decided to make a documentary out of it. I believe I edited it across one or two days total.

Grocery Story

This is the final product of the Adrenaline Film Project. We had to write, shoot, and edit a movie in 72 hours. We were given the genre of romantic comedy and were required to use a chain and the line "Oh, that's just not right." Under those restrictions, I'm proud of this work.

Running on Full

I wrote this from scratch in five days. I filmed it in one day. I edited it in three. We submitted it to the Virginia Film Festival and got accepted into the Adrenaline Film Project. Oh yeah, this was the first scripted narrative movie I have ever made. It is supposed to be a film noir comedy.

Trailer

This was another improv session gone wholly awry. I think it is quite possibly one of the greatest achievements in editing; if you saw the raw footage, you would understand. I also feel it is one of the best matches of music and visuals in my movies.

Birthday Party Plus

This is just a collection of the footage I took during my birthday party, compiled in an attempt to make some sort of abstract narrative. I don't see how anyone outside of those who participated can find it entertaining, but it is one of my favorites.

Duck Chase

The idea for this movie completely originated from the fact that there is a DJ Krush song of the same name. On a spur of the moment decision, it ended up happening at Great Falls National Park. After finishing it, I reedited it to try to get the video to closer match the style of the music. I like to call this version Reducks.

Movie 3

Again made during my first foray into videography. It took almost no editing, because we did it all manually while taping. The choice of music was my idea this time as well, and yet it somehow manages to be the strongest aspect! One of my favorites.

Movie 2

I made this while hanging out with Pooya and Kyle too. It was dramatically cut from 10 minutes of pointless action to now one and a half minutes of pointless action! Probably my worst, but I have found (fictitious) reasons to enjoy it. This time I chose the music myself, which is why it's so bad!

Movie 1

The first movie I ever made. This was a couple days after I first got my digital camcorder, and I invited Pooya and Kyle over to have some fun with it. We were just goofing around. Then, during editing, Pooya's suggestion for what music to use turned this into a masterpiece.
