Faulkner's First Editions

I'm not sure when the proverb about judging books by their covers began, but by the 1920s, when Faulkner's career began, novels were regularly published with dust jackets. Below are the nine novels we're reading, as they appeared to their first readers. As far as I know, Faulkner himself had no control over or even input to the process by which the covers were designed or illustrated.
