Here We Go!
The Brown and the Gold

From the Tiger's Tale

"Here we Go, ole ... ole ... ole! Go! Go! Go! Ale ... ale... ale... " Going down to Delhi and playing against AES has become one of Woodstock's MUST DOs for the girls' soccer team. This year too, the team has been formed after a tough decision when more than 60 girls signed up for the tryouts.

The tryouts were held and the decision was made to form two teams for the first time in the history of girls' soccer at Woodstock. Team A is the travelling team with sixteen girls, while Team B is mostly a practice team to help build good players for next year. Both teams practice Thursdays after school at Hanson, and Team A on Saturdays too, from 9:30 to 11:00 am.

Though the girls go to Delhi only in mid November, the practices started early because of track conflicts at Hanson. However, they will be playing other games, including a staff vs. students game.

On being asked whether there are any star players till date, Mrs. Seto replied, "We have some really strong players and we are concentrating to learn as a team. " However, she feels glad to have Sheena Agarwal, a strong right wing who has come to Woodstock for one year with a lot of experience, having already played for the Los Angeles City Team.

Though the girls are learning to play better soccer, Mrs. Seto feels proud to see the commitment of the girls as they come out and practice. She feels that we have a better team than what we did last year.

At this point, Mrs. Seto also takes time to thank the generous donations from the Class of '58 and the fact that they could purchase new uniforms, soccer balls, and shin guards. With Mawii as manager, Ms. Lane as the co-coach, and the enthusiastic, promising Woodstock girls raring to go, the team seems to show promise. When asked on how she feels facing AES again, Mrs. Seto responded, "Every year I feel more confident as the girls gain more skills and know how to play as a team more."
