Laura Smolkin's

Book Review Club

I've inserted this page so we in Virginia can take a more critical look at literature meant for children. The "WE" I'm speaking of includes both adults and children.

  • REVIEW BOOKS FOR TEACHERS.
    • This site offers teachers the opportunity to receive "free" copies of the most current publications meant for PreK - 6 language arts and children's literature instruction. Actually, the copies aren't free; in exchange for the book, you'll need to write a review that lets other teachers know what you think about the usefulness of the text you've reviewed.
    • To be considered as a text reviewer, please e-mail me at lbs5z@virginia.edu

  • REVIEW WHAT'S NEW IN CHILDREN'S LITERATURE
    • If you click on the link below, you'll arrive at the What's New Page in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Cooperative Children's Book Center. Each week, a different children's book is extensively reviewed. Click on Book of the Week (or take some time to browse the many exciting things going on at CCBC).

    BOOK OF THE WEEK

    • If you click on the picture, you'll find yourself at Amazon.com's address for the CCBC book so that you can order a copy if you'd like.
    • You can also send in a review of any book that you think other teachers absolutely MUST read.

      OR

  • HAVE YOUR STUDENTS SUBMIT THEIR BOOK REVIEWS

Here's that real audience that we're always emphasizing in our writing instruction!

Simply enter the appropriate information in the boxes below, and click on submit.
