Blue Ridge Slope Sites - North of Afton, VA (I-64 & Rt 250)

This map shows the Skyline Drive N. of Afton (Interstate-64). the fee is $10 for 3 days or $20 for all year. On the Blue Ridge Parkway S. of Afton, there's no charge for access. NOW that the overlooks are logged, there's a site for EVERY wind direction within 11 miles!

Lift Rating: 1 - 5 assuming 10 mph in the perfect direction for that slope (5 is good, Brown's Mt. is rated 3)

Distance Rating How close and low is the lift? (5 is good for Va, Brown's Mt. is rated 2 for 10 mph)

OFF the map South 1.3 miles: 2nd overlook (This is very close to Tom B's house if you need an emergency servo replacement!)

2nd overlook on Blue Ridge Parkway faces SE. Good lift in the slightest wind.

6 miles S. of Afton is Humpback Rock- pass the demo farm on R and take next L into parking lot. Field is above parking Lot. Requires 15 mph NW wind and the lift is very high over road.

Blue Ridge Parkway mile marker 6.1- Rangers say any plane without motor is OK.
