You were a poem
	I read
	In youth, but
	Did not understand
	Till I'd
	Become a man.
	And now,
	The song is gone,
	Though all the words
	Still remain.
	There were days
	I thought that
	If that music
	Twixt us fled,
	I could not live.
	How wrong I was!
	My heart
	Was strong beyond
	All I knew.
	We were not
	The rhyméd couplet
	I had supposed,
	And when
	Our rhythm died away,
	The book
	Was far from closed.
