The bland, standard examples of applications that populate ODE texts belie the rich, complex, exciting uses of this subject. In this talk, Professor Ross will discuss, very briefly, six or seven applications of ODE from his work as an industrial mathematician. These will include applications to photographic science, engine design, ecological economics, blood chemistry, heart disease, and micro-electro-mechanical-systems. He will stress the applications, there will be no technical ODE theory...well, OK, maybe a little, but not much.
