The golden ratio in the architecture of Thomas Jefferson

Abstract :What do the Fibonacci sequence, a pentagram, and Thomas Jefferson's architecture have in common? All of these things are closely related to Phi, the never-ending, never-repeating number 1.6180339887... Phi was originally defined by Euclid as the division of a line segment into its extreme and mean ratio. In this talk we discuss Thomas Jefferson's design of the Rotunda at the University of Virginia which utilizes the visual appeal of the Golden Ratio.
