| Abstract : We propose a new modelling of elastic composites in order to exhibit the band gap phenomenon. This modelling is based on the strong heterogeneities (in terms of the size of the microstructures) between the elastic constants of the inclusions and the matrix in which they are embedded. In the two-dimensional case we illustrate our theoretical results with numerical simulations. We also suggest an extension of this approach in order to deal with metamaterials made with dielectric composites. |
