Housing, Cairo, Egypt. 1967
When the Six Day War between Egypt and Israel broke out, my mother and father were on assignment with the U.S. government in Cairo. My mother stayed up the night before her evacuation to Athens and destroyed some 200 slides of overseas work. "We burned them and cut them up....Some of them were not flattering to the state and might get Lee in trouble, but I also felt resentment toward the Egyptian officials and did not want to leave behind anything that they might be able to use....So I chopped up slides."
