ISLAMIC BIOETHICS

 
The Islamic Bioethics interest group is directed to those interested in issues in Islamic Bioethics. Topics of interest include:

• Developing interaction between Muslim Bioethicists and medical professionals to respond to the technological advancements in the field of biomedicine.
• Assessing principles of ethical resolution in Islamic jurisprudence which are evoked in making bioethical decisions. 
• Collecting and compiling juridical decisions issued by Muslim legal scholars of all schools of legal thought in Islam on issues related to health care and biotechnology.
• Developing electronic archive of the fatawa dealing with all kinds of issues confronted by modern men and women in Islamic societies.
• Developing contacts and cooperation between centers of bioethics in the Islamic world and disseminating their works and research through the web.
• Articulating health professional and religious responsibility from Islamic point of view in the context of global health and poverty problems.

   

The global nature of biomedical technology and its accompanying moral dilemmas are faced by all members of the world community. We are working to make Islamic medical ethics as an important component of the international ethical deliberations. At the III World Congress of the International Association of Bioethics in San Francisco, Islamic Bioethics coordinates a panel on "Issues in Islamic Bioethics" in which prominent Muslim scholars and professionals presented papers.
